what we also do

We all know that plants are dynamic, living things, and because we understand so much about our own plants (we carry out trials around the world) we appreciate the subtle differences regarding their growth and habit.

Which is why it’s worthwhile visiting the section of our site which gives you local information – which plants are available; when it’s best to plant, prune and feed them; tips and so on. It’s all here to help you enjoy them more.

Anthony Tesselaar International does more than just search the world looking for new and distinctive plants that are easy care and environmentally friendly – in other words, plants that thrive without fussing or spraying.

We also understand a great deal about water, and that due to various factors, that in many parts of the world it’s a scare resource.

With less water, we’re acutely aware of the pressure that puts on our green asset – those marvelous and incredibly important areas in our cities which are leafy and green. These urban oases, which make a positive contribution to the well-being of our communities, need to be valued and supported by clever water technologies and by informed plant choice.

This is what we’re doing to help make this happen...

We’re testing for drought tolerant plants:

to see how a plant performs with its standard water allocation: three quarters; half; and even a quarter of its original scheduled irrigation. Our aim is to identify those plants which are tougher than they look and by how much we can afford to reduce the amount of water we’re using.

We’re looking at grey water:

to make the most of what is becoming the water source of the future. And to do this we’re involved in exploring simple but innovative grey water treatment systems worldwide.

We’re carrying out research and offering advice:

working with organizations and governments we’re promoting the value of the green asset: through gardener education, building green infrastructure, promoting low food miles, encouraging revegetation, and promoting carbon offsets. Ultimately, we’re engaged in finding solutions to those environmental, economic and social problems that are linked to the green asset.

"I have for several years been adding to my collection of your gorgeous Flower Carpet roses and hoped this year to add several coral and reds. They are simply fabulous flowers…our pinks and appleblossom’s have made our yard a wonderland."
