Alstroemeria Rock & Roll

Alstroemeria Rock & Roll® is a bold plant. Its foliage is a distinctive yellow fading to white with a green edge, and when the flowers bloom, they’re brilliant red. This dramatic colour combination – the green, white and red – means Alstroemeria Rock & Roll is a show stopper, a perfect plant to decorate with at festive times’ of year. Because Alstroemeria Rock & Roll flowers from Spring right through until early Autumn, it produces enough flowers and foliage to harvest as cut flowers to bring indoors.

FLOWERS & FOLIAGE FLOWERS & FOLIAGE

The eye-catching foliage opens yellow, then fades to white, all the while sporting a deep green edge. Masses of 60-70mm (up to 2¾") dark red flowers are held on multiple showy white stems and flowering repeats from spring through to late autumn. Cut flowers, though not fragrant, are long lasting.

PLANTING TIPS PLANTING TIPS

You can plant Alstroemeria Rock & Roll from part shade to full sun, preferably in free draining, crumbly soil. Once established, pulling spent flower stems out from the base encourages more flowers. To promote new vigorous growth, cut to ground level in late winter.

WAYS TO USE THEM WAYS TO USE THEM

Mass plant Alstroemeria Rock & Roll in the garden for graphic effect. Fill containers and position them for maximum impact – near entrances or outdoor eating areas. Alstroemeria Rock & Roll is a great potted gift and when established, a good source of cut flowers.

SHAPE & SIZE SHAPE & SIZE

This is an attractively shaped alstroemeria - compact, bushy and clump forming. Once mature it will be 80-100 cm tall and 50-70 cm wide. If you’re planting Alstroemeria Rock & Roll for a massed effect, space them 50 cm apart to exclude weeds.

FOOD & WATER FOOD & WATER

The needs of Alstroemeria Rock & Roll are very moderate: a soil that’s average to moist, just not boggy or very dry. It loves a soil that’s full of organic matter and if possible, to be given a dose of a slow release fertiliser in spring and again in late summer.

PESTS & DISEASE PESTS & DISEASE

While Alstroemeria Rock & Roll isn’t susceptible to any specific diseases, it’s worth keeping an eye out for slugs and snails. Since it is frost tender, and deciduous in cold climates, where winters are very cold it will need protection. And while it can cope with scorchingly hot summer days, it appreciates some shade if available.
