Hydrangea – Gift hydrangeas

Beautiful, elegant and wonderfully long-lasting, the Gift Hydrangeas have been specially selected to bring the beauty of fresh flowers together with the lasting enjoyment of a living plant.

Whether displayed indoors for a special occasion or presented as a thoughtful gift, these stunning hydrangeas create an instant floral centrepiece. Unlike a traditional bouquet, they can continue to be enjoyed long after the celebration, eventually finding a permanent place in the garden or a decorative container.

As lacecap hydrangeas, each flower head is a beautiful combination of colourful outer florets surrounding a delicate cluster of creamy central buds, creating a refined and distinctive appearance. This elegant flower form adds texture and depth, making every bloom a true focal point.

The collection includes the aptly named Hydrangea Strawberries & Cream® and Hydrangea Blueberries & Cream™, each inspired by its delicious blend of flower colours. Their charming appearance and exceptional garden performance make them a memorable gift for birthdays, Mother’s Day, anniversaries or simply to brighten someone’s day.

Whether you’re treating yourself or surprising someone special, the Gift Hydrangeas offer a beautiful way to enjoy flowers that continue to grow, flourish and bring pleasure for years to come.

FLOWERS & FOLIAGE FLOWERS & FOLIAGE

Gift hydrangeas have lovely deep green foliage. They flower generously in early spring: Hydrangea Blueberries & Cream has true, clear blue flowers with pale blue to white buds at the centre; the open flowers of Hydrangea Strawberries & Cream are rich strawberry red with white flushed with pink buds at the centre.

PLANTING TIPS PLANTING TIPS

In the home, treat Gift Hydrangeas like a house plant, watering it every second day. Then when the flower show is finally over, you can move them outdoors where they can adjust to the real world. Keep them in the same pot, plant them into another or pop them into the garden. They like a partially shaded position.

WAYS TO USE THEM WAYS TO USE THEM

Line them up on your kitchen window ledge. Use them as floral decorations to dress up a High Tea table filled with cakes and sandwiches. Give them instead of a bunch of flowers and they’ll last for weeks. Tuck them into a container together with a mix of other plants to create gorgeous spring displays.

SHAPE & SIZE SHAPE & SIZE

These hydrangeas are nothing like the leggy, sticky hydrangeas our grandmothers had in their gardens. Instead they’ll keep their dense compact growth habit, and once established, Gift hydrangeas will grow to 90cm high & wide in the garden, or 60cm in a container.

FOOD & WATER FOOD & WATER

It’s good to remember that hydrangeas need regular watering, but once established, a little does go a long way. As for food, it’s all about feeding these plants via the soil. For Hydrangea Strawberries & Cream, an alkaline (pH 6.5-7.0) soil will work well, while for Hydrangea Blueberries & Cream, it needs a more acidic soil (pH 5.0-5.5).

PESTS & DISEASE PESTS & DISEASE

These Hydrangea Gift series may be lovely but they aren’t delicate. They’re rarely affected by pests or diseases. Keep in mind that like many plants, they don’t thrive in waterlogged soils.

Landscaper tips

• Gift hydrangeas are useful where a month or more of high quality colour show is needed in a semi enclosed space, for example shopping precincts and building foyers
• Mass them in planters at entrances or in window boxes to create a long lasting spring-time splash of colour
• They’re also a great accent plant in large containers filled with mixed ‘florist style’ plantings
