USING PHLOX VOLCANO TO ADD COLOUR TO YOUR GARDEN

Phlox Volcano™ come in a variety of colours and are ideal for adding colour to your garden. They range from white and pale shades of pink and purple to bright reds, pinks and purples. Phlox Volcano are among the most mildew-tolerant varieties of garden phlox and are more compact than some of the older varieties of phlox. As a result, they don’t need to be staked and can be used in a variety of settings. They’re also easy to divide, especially in the early spring and late autumn once they’ve completed their bloom cycle. And as another bonus, if they’re deadheaded or cut back after their first bloom, you can enjoy at least one more bloom cycle!
They work well in a variety of garden settings and look especially nice when combined with daylilies, rudbeckia and coneflowers, yellow butttons, coreopsis, bergamont and salvia – all garden workhorses that also add color for long periods of time while requiring minimal care and maintenance.
USING COLOUR SCHEMES IN THE GARDEN

There are a number of colour schemes that can be used with Phlox Volcano to add eye-popping colour to your garden.
Analogous colours are generally 3 colours side-by-side on a 12-part colour wheel. They can be used in any combination to create a monochromatic colour scheme.
Complementary colours are those that are directly opposite each other on the colour wheel. Using them together creates a soothing yet colourful display.
Neutral colours include ones that can be used without changing the overall effect of your design. They include silvers, browns, grey and white.
This mixture of Phlox Volcano Purple and orange/red daylilies (below) is an example of an analogous colour scheme.

These pink-hued varieties of Volcano phlox (below) also work nicely together in an analogous scheme.

WHITE AS A NEUTRAL COLOUR IN THE GARDEN
Phlox Volcano ‘White’ works beautifully in an all-white garden. However, because it’s a neutral colour, it pairs nicely with both softer colours and bold colours. Adding white to any garden brings out the other colours.
Below, the bright white blossoms of Volcano phlox against the rock and blue spruce enhance the total look of this simple neutral toned corner bed.

However you decide to use Volcano phlox in your garden, you’re sure to enjoy months of gorgeous fragrant blooms!
